With the opening of the QUADRILL in Linz, a new, modern urban quarter has emerged around the Tabakfabrik. The mix of uses, comprising office space, a hotel, flats, retail and catering, generates a wide variety of waste every day – and thus places high demands on clean, efficient and traceable waste management. The completed site comprises around 3,000 m² of retail space, of which approximately 1,000 m² is dedicated to catering, 18,000 m² of office space and 8,400 m² of residential space. A striking architectural highlight is the 109-metre-high QUADRILL Tower.
Modern on-site waste management
The MULTIPRESS ECO from PÖTTINGER Entsorgungstechnik is used for waste management there – a system that has been tried and tested for more than 20 years whilst remaining innovative, which collects and compacts waste directly on site and transparently records the quantities deposited.
“With the MULTIPRESS ECO, we are demonstrating how modern waste management can work today: cleaner, more efficient and more transparent. Particularly in heavily used urban neighbourhoods, solutions are needed that noticeably simplify everyday life for operators, users and the waste management process,” explains Dipl.-Ing. Maximilian Pöttinger, Managing Director of PÖTTINGER Entsorgungstechnik.
Clean collection points
The enclosed and compact system ensures that waste is collected in an organised manner. This helps to reduce overfilled bins, loose waste around collection points and the need for additional cleaning. At the same time, the compaction process within the compactor ensures that larger volumes can be accommodated. As a result, fewer emptying operations and fewer disposal journeys are required.
Transparent billing for different user groups
Another advantage is transparent billing. Thanks to the integrated weighing and identification technology, waste volumes can be recorded in a traceable manner and allocated according to the user responsible. At QUADRILL, the MULTIPRESS ECO thus enables fair billing for different user groups – from the residents of the 175 residential units, through hotels and restaurants, to retail and other commercial uses.
A tried-and-tested solution for urban infrastructure
Its use at QUADRILL demonstrates how modern waste management technology can be implemented in buildings and urban neighbourhoods. The MULTIPRESS ECO is already in use in many towns and cities, from Melbourne to Dublin. The system has also been proving its worth for many years in Italy – primarily in South Tyrol – in Switzerland, and across shopping centres throughout Austria. The MULTIPRESS ECO thus represents a new generation of municipal and urban infrastructure: less cleaning effort, fewer transport journeys and greater transparency in billing.
